A NOTE FROM PASTOR BOBBY
A NOTE FROM PASTOR BOBBY
As all of you know, yesterday was a day of shocking violence and death and evil in our nation. A young husband and father was assassinated in front of a gathering of thousands of people. In Evergreen another student walked into their school and shot two classmates before turning the gun on himself. And today Thursday, Sept. 11th marks the 24th anniversary of the worst terrorist attack on our nation’s soil. In moments like these it feels like our society and culture are spinning out of control. Politicians on both sides offer talking points. Activists and Influencers raise the cry for action. How do we respond as followers of Jesus Christ?
We look to the cross. It is there that we see our Lord face death and evil head-on. It is there that we see the worst violence inflicted upon the one, true, perfect man for the sake of all the sin in the world. It is on the cross that Jesus destroys not only the power of death but shows the world the foolishness of violence and overcomes the powers and principalities of this world. "For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." (1 Cor. 1:18).
So today, brothers and sisters in Christ, let us repent. Let us turn from the folly of our own sin and the temptation to power through violence. Today, let us lament. May we cry out to Christ and ask for His mercy on those who mourn the death of loved ones and who have been touched by evil. Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy. Come quickly, Lord Jesus!
