Fall Partnership Highlight - Children's Hope Chest

Building Sustainable Opportunity in Modjo

For the next two months, Trinity Church & School will turn our attention toward our international partners at the Modjo CarePoint in Ethiopia through Children’s HopeChest.

Our relationship with Modjo is not simply about sending resources across the world. It is about walking alongside a community as local leaders identify needs, develop solutions, and work toward greater stability and independence.

One of their next major steps is the creation of the Modjo Poultry Farm.

From Assistance to Opportunity

Many guardians connected to the Modjo CarePoint work hard to provide for their families but remain economically vulnerable. Small businesses and inconsistent employment can make it difficult for families to develop reliable sources of income.

The poultry farm has been designed as an income-generating project for 25 guardians, who will work together to raise poultry and sell eggs and chickens within the community.

Participants will receive training in:

  • Poultry production and care

  • Feeding and sanitation

  • Veterinary health and disease prevention

  • Marketing and sales

  • Business and financial practices

The local government is also participating by providing land for the poultry facility and access to agricultural training and expertise.

Creating Something That Can Continue

One of the things that makes this project particularly exciting is its focus on sustainability.

The goal is not simply to provide temporary financial assistance. The farm is intended to create ongoing income for participating families while eventually generating revenue that can help sustain the Modjo CarePoint itself as it becomes increasingly financially independent.

The project also intentionally encourages women to take active leadership roles within the self-help groups operating the farm.

The full project is expected to cost approximately $45,500 and will be implemented in phases, including construction of the poultry shed, purchase of hens and chickens, feed, staffing, utilities, and a local shop where eggs can be sold.

Trinity’s Part

Throughout August and September, the Modjo Poultry Farm will be Trinity’s featured partnership project.

Our school students will participate through weekly chapel offerings, while our congregation and families will have opportunities to learn more about Modjo, pray for the families and leaders there, and contribute toward the project.

For our students especially, this offers an important opportunity to understand that generosity is about more than giving something away. Sometimes generosity helps another person develop the tools, skills, and opportunities to build something that lasts.

This year our chapel theme invites us to “Come and See—God is on the Move.” In Modjo, we can see God at work through relationships, local leadership, hardworking families, and partners coming together around a shared vision for the future.

And we have the privilege of joining them.
